Job Summary: The Nurse Extern Program is an educational and clinical work experience for nursing students who have completed their junior level of nursing studies. The extern assists in patient care and reports the physical, psychological, and emotional conditions of the patient. Meets the qualifications to provide care for patients in the specific age range on their assigned nursing unit.
The nurse extern will not perform any procedures that require state licensing (i.e. passing medications, nursing diagnosis, admission assessments, etc.).
Performs duties to provide the highest level of patient care and maximizes patient satisfaction.
Responsible for ensuring the very best patient/family experience by optimizing all customer interaction. Foster a positive work environment through mutual support and cooperation and adheres to GHS and unit specific Service Standards.
Works under the direct supervision of an RN preceptor. Responsible to the Operations Manager.
All applicants must meet the following requirements prior to starting: Satisfactory Completion of Junior Level Nursing Studies
BLS certification preferred

GEISINGER-COMMUNITY MEDICAL CENTER (G-CMC), Scranton, Pa., is an acute care hospital licensed for 297 beds and houses the only Level II Trauma Center in Lackawanna County and Scranton’s only neurosurgery program and adult in-patient behavioral health unit.
